What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication OR Rich Site Summary) and is an XML-based language that makes is easy to distribute Web content. You can decide on your favorite websites and your RSS software (more on that later) will syndicate these, along with other information about the websites, and display the content to you on your desktop at regular intervals. You can then decide at a later date, if you want to follow the link.

How can you use RSS technology?
RSS works when a Web site makes an XML feed, or the file containing news items and their descriptions available publicly in a common format. For example, you can go to google.com and search for hundreds of thsands of RSS feeds published by many websites. Once a feed is available, you can fetch the information it offers by using software called 'aggregators', they will display, manage and check for updates on a list of feeds (that you choose) automatically.

There are a number of aggregators available on the web. Many are free, some are at minimal cost, and others are expensive! Here are a few examples:

RSS has a many benefits, here are a few:

1. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving summaries of the latest content from your favourite sources. your aggregator can be set to check at regular intervals for updates to your favorite info
   (a good example would be the jobs page at:
   www.rigg-access.com/rope-access-jobs.asp).
2. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. Content comes to you, rather than you having to go to the content. Therefore you can access more content in less time.
3. You avoid all additional information on the website, such as navigation etc.
