Hi,

I'm thinking about going for the above supplementary Ultrasonic quals in a few months in order to further my career a bit. I've being doing UT for a little over a year and am currently 3.1/3,2. Just wondering how much more difficult these quals are compared to the plate and pipe. I know you don't have to sit any more theory/specific papers. Also, I heard that you automatically get the 3.7 qual if you pass the 3.8 exam is this correct?

I would be interested to hear from any guys that are currently 3.8/3.9.

Thanks in advance.

You'll find they are a fair bit harder to complete. On paper it doesn't look too bad BUT once you get your probes onto some of the specimens you'll find it'll take a fair bit of getting used to. The configuration of nodes and nozzles is a lot different. You'll see signals bouncing everywhere.

If/when you get through it though you'll see another difference in your employ-ability and expected rates.

I've always wondered what a node is? I assume it's just a branch?
