Alright folks,
Just sat my PCN 3.1, 3.2 UT a couple of weeks ago and passed my plate, pipe and general paper. Trouble is I failed my specific and am a bit worried in-case I fail it again as I wont be allowed to re-sit it for 6 months (I think it is).
Any advice on what areas I should be studying hard at. I have the product technology book that Talon gave me and a JC Dury book which is quite helpful. Any other literature I should have that would be handy?
Cheers. |

Well done for passing rnb, I could never get my head around the level 2 stuff for years. Still not had the balls to go sit it
Whenever I've had trouble with the question papers I've just done the practice papers again and again until it get stuck in my head. You could always try the "self test" books. Had a set for ECI but told they exist for other quals.
You basically read the chapter, at the end of the chapter you answer the questions, if you get any wrong it tells you to go back and read it again. |

Congrats on getting through (well.... more or less!).
What sort of margin did you fail by? If it was by a large margin then you need to be doing more brushing up, if it was only a relatively minor amount you'll be fine with the literature you already have.
Do you know where your weaker areas are? If so, what are they, maybe we can offer a bit more help. |

Cheers for the replies, I went to Talon and told them my worries and Ian gave me some more stuff on product technology to swat up on. I didn't fail by a huge margin, but failure is not an option this time!!!
The area I'm struggling to get my head around are what types of defects occur with the different kinds of welding process's. I think that I had brain overload when I was doing the course but at least I can focus all my attention on this area now.
Currently taking a wee break from the swatting but I need to get back to it. Urgh!! |

The actual weld anomalies aren't too bad once you get your head round them, most people struggle with the castings and forgings (you are doing casting as well ?) and the volumetric anomalies which they throw up.
If you failed by a small margin then it means you don't need a great deal more to get you up to speed - a bit more study and you'll be on your way - good luck..! |
