I notice these boards are full of people with NDT/Rope Access Qualifications, who just need a start. It's not easy. Was wondering how all the existing guys here who are currently working in the industry got in it.

Whoa this is a hot topic!

I got started about 2 years ago. I kind of fell into NDT/Inspection/Rope Access by mistake/good fortune.

I wanted in on the oil/gas industry, so promptly paid for my Offshore Survival and Medical. Then started applying. Never got a response from most companies as I had no experience. I kind of gave up on it and focussed on my current job at the time, a graphic designer.

All of a sudden there was an advert for Plant Inspector, but the advert was printed correctly, a lot of the criteria was missed out of the advert and as a result, all it asked for was offshore survival, medical and computer literacy. I applied, promptly got told that the position required at least 5 years experience. Although, if I wanted to come for an interview, they would consider taking me on as a trainee. Aced the interview and never looked back. Love my job!
